A stunning twist on a classic perennial garden favorite, this plant features gracefully arching stems adorned with elegant, white, heart-shaped flowers. It thrives best in sheltered spots away from strong winds. As its foliage tends to die back by midsummer, it's ideal to pair it with later-emerging plants to maintain garden appeal.
Perfect for shady borders and woodland gardens
A reliable addition to mixed perennial borders
Beautiful when paired with Hostas
Soil:
Prefers fertile, humus-rich, well-drained soil.
Watering:
Keep soil evenly moist, especially in hot weather.
Water new plantings daily for the first few weeks.
After establishment, water every 2–3 days as needed based on weather and soil type.
Feeding:
Enrich soil annually with organic compost or mulch.
Apply a balanced, bloom-boosting fertilizer (e.g., 5-10-5) in early spring and mid-season.
Avoid late-season feeding to prevent frost-sensitive growth.
Mulching:
Apply a 2” (5 cm) layer of mulch to retain moisture, suppress weeds, and extend blooming into summer.
Plant anytime from spring to fall.
Loosen soil to 12–16” (30–40 cm) deep and mix in compost or other organic matter.
Space according to plant label recommendations.
Position taller plants in the back and shorter ones in front.
Gently remove the plant from its container, tease apart roots if needed, and plant at the same depth as in the pot.
Firm soil around roots and water thoroughly.
Deadhead faded blooms or cut entire flower stalks after blooming.
Prune damaged or discolored leaves as needed.
Stop pruning after September 1st to avoid frost damage.
In late fall, cut back foliage to about 4” (10 cm) above ground after it dies back.
Divide every 3–4 years to promote vigorous growth and more blooms.
